Cosmetic Bonding: A Conservative Smile Treatment

by: Dr.

Do you want to change the appearance of your smile, but are unsure about committing to porcelain veneers? Cosmetic bonding is a more conservative cosmetic dentistry solution than can accomplish similar results to veneers without requiring reduction of tooth structure. At Park West Dental Associates, we can use cosmetic bonding to change the appearance of your teeth without needing extensive dental work.

For cosmetic bonding, we apply a tooth-colored composite material to help cover over stains, chips and gaps. Dr. Hogan can use this to help reshape your teeth and even hide gaps in your smile. Once the composite is in place and shaped, it will be hardened and polished. The composite material will reflect light similarly to enamel, giving you a natural looking smile. Cosmetic bonding doesn’t require a dental drill, so if you experience dental anxiety, this could also be a good choice for you.

If you’re not happy with the appearance of your smile, cosmetic bonding could be a great way to improve your smile. With the proper care and maintenance, it will last between three and ten years. Give us a call today to see if this conservative treatment is right for your smile. Dr. Hogan wants all of his patients to have the bright, beautiful smiles of their dreams.

At Park West Dental Associates, Dr. Kevin Hogan provides quality comprehensive dental care to you and your family. Our Mt. Pleasant, SC dental office serves patients from Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, and West Ashley. Call us today to schedule your next appointment.

by: Dr.

Is your smile not as bright or sparkling as you’d like but you’re not sure what to do? Have you perhaps tried over the counter teeth whitening solutions and haven’t been satisfied with the results? Teeth whitening from Park West Dental Associates could just be the smile solution you’ve been waiting for.

Your teeth become yellowed over time for a variety of reasons, including aging, smoking and tobacco use, and drinking coffee, tea and red wine. No matter the reason why, there’s no reason you need to live with a dull, yellowed smile any longer.

We offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening solutions. This gives you flexibility and allows us to combine both solutions for a truly custom whitening plan for your smile.

Our in-office whitening solution is Zoom! Whitening. Dr. Hogan will apply the special whitening gel to your teeth and activate it with a low-heat lamp, leaving your teeth six to ten shades whiter after just one visit to our office. If you’d like to whiten your smile from the convenience of your own home, we also offer an at-home whitening solution. Dr. Hogan will create a custom whitening tray that you’ll fill with whitening solution and wear as directed. You’ll see results immediately, with the best results coming after several applications.

No matter which method you choose, you’ll have a brighter smile thanks to teeth whitening solutions from Park West Dental Associates. We’d love to help you have a bright, beautiful smile, so give us a call today to get started.

Dental Care Technology For Better Patient Care

by: Dr.

At Park West Dental Associates, we are always striving to make the dental experience as pleasant as possible for our patients. We use innovations in dental care technology to help make our office even more welcoming and convenient for you.

With dental care technology such as intraoral cameras, digital x-rays and paperless charting, your appointment will run smoother than before. With intraoral cameras and digital x-rays, we can learn more about your smile faster than ever before. Digital x-rays emit far less radiation than traditional methods, and our commitment to paperless charting has helped the environment through our reduced use of paper.

Also, we use air abrasion in our office, which most patients find to be a more pleasant alternative to a dental drill. Air abrasion blows a stream of small particles at the tooth, almost like a mini sandblaster. If you’re nervous about drills, this could be comforting to you. Lasers can also be used to increase the accuracy and detail of our dental work, as well as reduce the healing time. One specific laser, DIAGNOdent, can even be used to detect cavities far earlier than any other method.

Dr. Kevin Hogan and his staff want you to have a pleasant and enjoyable experience every time you visit. Dental care technology is a great way to help improve the quality of care that we provide, as well as improve the patient experience. Call us today to schedule your next appointment and see the benefits for yourself.

General Family Dentistry from Dr. Hogan

by: Dr.

It’s important to make sure that your family has good dental health, as this can impact your overall health. We offer quality general family dentistry services here at Park West Dental Associates. No matter your age, we’re here to help with quality dentistry services for every member of your family. You’re never too young or too old for a healthy smile.

Many people think that family dentistry just encompasses dental checkups and cleanings, but there’s much more than that. Family dentistry focuses on comprehensive care for your entire mouth, not just your teeth and gums. We can create athletic mouthguards to wear while playing sports and nightguards to wear while you sleep as a treatment for teeth grinding. Also, if you suffer from a snoring problem or TMJ-dysfunction, we’re here to help.

We will inspect your teeth for signs of tooth decay and cavities so that we can help to repair the damage and restore your smile. If caught early, the impact to your teeth can be minimized. At your general family dentistry checkup we will also check for signs of gum disease, a serious health concern that could result in you losing a tooth if allowed to spread.  Make sure you visit us twice a year to ensure the continued health of your smile.

General family dentistry is an important part of your family’s health, and we’re here to help with education and preventative care. We want all of our patients and their families to have beautiful, healthy smiles.

At Park West Dental Associates, Dr. Kevin Hogan provides quality family dental care to you and your loved ones. Our Mt. Pleasant, SC dental office serves patients from Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, and West Ashley. Call us today to schedule your next appointment.

Do You Have Dental Benefits To Use Before the End of the Year?

by: Dr.

November is almost here, and then from there we just have two short months until the start of 2013. That means, of course, that a new holiday season is on its way, but it also means something else—your current dental benefits are about to expire, and what money you have available to you now will be lost.

Don’t let that happen.

Instead, use this time between now and January to meet your oral health needs. Maybe that means coming in to our Mt. Pleasant office for something as simple as a checkup and professional cleaning. Or maybe it means starting work on a restorative procedure you already know you need. It may even mean giving your smile the cosmetic boost you’ve always dreamed of having.

Whatever you have in mind, don’t wait any longer. While some procedures may only take a single appointment to complete, others might take multiple visits. By starting on your smile makeover now, you’re more likely to get all those visits in before the year ends and your current benefits go the way of 2012 itself.

Give Dr. Kevin Hogan’s Mt. Pleasant dental office a call today to reserve your appointment. We serve patients from Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, and West Ashley.

Why Not Hand Out Xylitol Candy This Halloween?

by: Dr.

Halloween is right around the corner, which means another night of trick-or-treating is almost here. What kind of candy will you be handy out?

You could go with an old favorite like Snickers, Hershey bars, or just about any other chocolate or fruit-flavored choice. But you could do also choose something that maybe you’ve never chosen before—candy made with xylitol.

What Is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a sweetener, but unlike cane sugar or corn syrup, you’ll find xylitol naturally in foods like fruits and vegetables. What’s more, it doesn’t have a corrosive effect on teeth, the way those other sweeteners do.

Instead, it’s well known among dentists for its positive effects on teeth. Instead of exciting the bad bacteria in our mouths and causing a reaction that produces acid, xylitol promotes a neutral pH, preventing bacteria from feeding, from producing acid, and from sticking to teeth, thereby reducing the likelihood of cavities.

That explains why a company like Toms of Maine and other companies use xylitol in some of their oral care products. And it explains why, of all the candies you could hand out to kids this Halloween, candy made from xylitol is one of the best options.

To find xylitol candy, check with your local grocery store and health food store or you can shop online at sites like Amazon or xlear.com.

And if you have any more questions about xylitol, or if you’d like to schedule your next checkup with Dr. Hogan, call our Mt. Pleasant office today. We serve patients from Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, and West Ashley.
